Callahan has 40 years’ experience as an artist, art teacher and tutor.
Studied art at Wollongong TAFE which had a strong faculty of artist teachers from around the world.
Studied ceramics at Nowra TAFE
Studied sculpture at Hervey Bay College with artist Marc Clark
Studied the manufacture of paints from pigments with German artist Willy Gilly
He has won over 40 awards in the visual arts, including best painting of the exhibition 3 times and people’s choice award 5 times while exhibiting in regional art competitions. Other awards include best traditional landscape, seascape, contemporary paintings and sculptural pieces.
He has paintings and sculptures in collections worldwide including local governments, businesses and private collectors. His painting of HMAS Moresby was received so well it has been included in their RAN’s Permanent Collection.
During this period, he was represented in many combined and highly successful solo exhibitions.
He was the owner/ manager of Hervey Bay Art Gallery where his duties included, the sales and demonstration of artist materials, picture framing, organising and hanging exhibitions, teaching small art groups and lecturing larger classes at local high schools and TAFE.
He was also president of the Hervey Bay Art Society for a year and was invited to and adjudicated several Regional Art Shows.
Since April 2013 stan has been delivering training in accredited art, creating resources and developing training packages for RTO’s to replace superseded art courses. He also taught both indigenous and non-indigenous learners.
He also developed designs and gave instruction in wire form jewellery and artistic furniture construction to adult learners in remote communities throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory. This was a rewarding experience working with such diverse groups of people, sharing knowledge and ideas.
With the cessation of training work Callahan has moved back into the studio to continue where he left off, only now with the combined knowledge of his experiences to drive his art on.
